Applications Open! The New York Times Illustration Portfolio Review
Briefly

The New York Times invites illustrators to submit portfolios for a chance to receive critiques from their art directors. Eighty illustrators will be selected for this opportunity, where personal and unpublished work is encouraged, except for any that utilizes Generative A.I. Participants must be 18 or older, and the submission deadline is June 1, 2025. Those chosen will have virtual meetings with art directors in early fall. Given the high number of submissions expected, only selected candidates will be contacted.
Participation is free and open to anyone who is 18 or older. We will select 80 illustrators for portfolio critiques with The New York Times art directors.
Unpublished and personal work is welcome, but submissions utilizing Generative A.I. will not be considered for this portfolio review opportunity.
Portfolios can include all types of illustration—photo-illustration, comics, and animation—providing a broad spectrum for artists to showcase their creativity.
Those not selected will not receive notifications due to the volume of submissions, which emphasizes the competitive nature of this portfolio review.
