Gary Payton II publicly encouraged Bay Area fans to wake up early and watch Macklin Celebrini in the Olympic gold medal match between Canada and the USA. Payton predicted Celebrini will join the ranks of hockey greats like Gretzky, Crosby and Ovechkin. Warriors coaches and players shared memories of Celebrini growing up around the franchise and playing pickup games with family at the Oakland facility. Celebrini's father, Rick, serves as Golden State's vice president of player health and medicine and has been with the Warriors since 2018. The team watched the game's final minutes together during a film session.
