Warriors explain plan for new addition Kristaps Porzingis
"Kerr said he is hopeful the new addition will be ready to take the floor on Feb. 19 against Boston, which also happens to be the same day the Warriors expect to bring back Steph Curry. He was close to returning for Atlanta, and that was one of the reasons we made the trade, because our performance staff did their due diligence and felt like he would be on-track to play shortly after the break, Kerr said. That's still the hope."
"During his introductory press conference, Porzingis joked that he hoped to play the full 48 minutes in his return. More realistically, the man who has played at least 60 games in a season only once in the past seven years will have his minutes gradually ramped up. He also will likely join De'Anthony Melton and Al Horford in the group of Warriors who do not play in both legs of back-to-backs."
Golden State traded Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Hawks for Kristaps Porzingis, a 7-foot-2 sharpshooter and prolific shot-blocker with an iffy health history. Porzingis has played 17 games this season, has not played in a back-to-back since 2024, and has dealt with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) for several years. Steve Kerr and the performance staff believe he will be on track to play shortly after the All-Star break, targeting Feb. 19 against Boston. Porzingis will return in short bursts with minutes gradually increased and will likely skip one leg of back-to-backs while joining a center rotation that includes Al Horford, Draymond Green and Quinten Post.
