Sources: Warriors trading Jonathan Kuminga, Buddy Hield to Hawks for Kristaps Porzingis
"Kuminga's time with the Warriors ends after 4½ tumultuous seasons that saw the 23-year-old wing repeatedly fall out of Steve Kerr's rotation. Drafted with the No. 7 pick in 2021, Kuminga flashed his potential as an athletic wing several times throughout his career but never ended up meshing with the rest of the roster on the court, particularly after the trade to acquire Jimmy Butler last season."
"Porzingis got off to a hot start to the season, averaging 19.2 points in his first 13 games with the Hawks, who acquired the Latvian big man in a trade with the Boston Celtics in the offseason. However, his season was derailed by what the Hawks called an illness that sidelined him for most of December. While on the Celtics last season, Porzingis was diagnosed with an autonomic nervous system disorder called POTS that ended up severely limiting him in the playoffs."
The Golden State Warriors traded Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis. Kuminga struggled to secure consistent rotation minutes across four-and-a-half seasons after being selected No. 7 in 2021 and did not mesh well with the roster, particularly following the Jimmy Butler acquisition. A two-year deal signed after contentious negotiations included a team option and delayed trade eligibility until Jan. 15. Kuminga started the season but was benched, briefly returned after Butler's injury, and then missed time with a knee injury. Porzingis began the season scoring well but has been sidelined much of December and early January due to an illness and a prior POTS diagnosis; he remains a high-end stretch five and rim protector on an expiring contract.
