"We've gotten to talk, and get to know each other better, and I'm just excited now, and I'm looking forward to that. Our connection has been so great, Kuminga said. He's the type of guy who has been in the league for so long, and he's coming to me. Every time I see something, he's next to me and teaching me things maybe I did or did not know. I respect his knowledge."
Jonathan Kuminga displayed increased playmaking during the preseason, recording four assists in the opener. Kuminga averaged 15.3 points and 2.2 assists last season and carried a reputation for taking difficult shots instead of finding open shooters. He signed a two-year, $46.5 million deal, changed his jersey to No. 1, and adopted a learning mentality in training camp. Al Horford, a 39-year-old veteran with 37.7% career three-point accuracy, provided floor spacing and mentorship. The Horford-Kuminga pairing often shared the same side of the floor, with Horford offering outlets on the wing. Coach Steve Kerr praised the pairing as a positive development.
