In June, German business morale rose to its highest level in a year, reaching 88.4 points, reflecting increased confidence in the economy under the new government. This upturn is particularly evident across various sectors, including manufacturing, services, trade, and construction, signaling a recovery from previous economic challenges. Additionally, a German court has overturned the government's ban on the far-right magazine Compact, stating that while the publication contained some anti-constitutional elements, the conditions for a complete ban were not justified, emphasizing free speech rights.
“Sentiment among companies in Germany has improved,” Ifo president Clemens Fuest said. “The German economy is slowly building confidence.”
“While the magazine had published some 'anti-constitutional' material, the conditions for a ban had not been met,” said presiding judge Ingo Kraft.
The Federal Administrative Court stated that much of the magazine's output fell into the category of 'exaggerated but permissible criticism'.
Compact reacted jubilantly to the court ruling, describing the verdict as a 'resounding success' for freedom of expression.
