Germany's Defence Minister Boris Pistorius accused Russia of using peace talks to stall rather than seeking real resolution. He noted that President Putin's conditions for a ceasefire primarily serve Russian interests, blocking Ukraine's NATO membership and demanding territorial concessions. Despite calls for negotiations, Russia escalated its attacks, undermining the peace process. Pistorius also indicated Germany's support for further EU sanctions against Russia and expressed readiness to raise its defence budget to 5% of GDP to meet NATO targets, moving away from the current 2% budget over a span of 5 to 7 years.
Putin is clearly playing for time, unfortunately we have to say Putin is not really interested in peace.
This is my assessment. There is no timetable.
Germany wouldn't be able to meet its NATO goals with a defence budget of 3%.
The plan is to achieve that in between 5 to 7 years by increasing the defence budget.
