The state of Rhineland-Palatinate will prevent individuals affiliated with extremist organizations, such as the far-right AfD party, from holding government positions. New recruitment rules will require applicants to declare they have no ties to extremist groups in the last five years. This effectively prohibits AfD members from civil service roles, as the party is monitored by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. Existing public sector employees could face disciplinary action for loyalty violations. Stricter rules will also apply to police officers.
Going forward, membership of an extremist organisation could constitute a disciplinary offence. Employees with proven violations of their duty of loyalty to the constitution could expect to be removed from service.
Loyalty to the constitution is not a wish or a recommendation...it is the immovable duty of every civil servant in our country.
