German Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig advocates for stricter custody laws that would prevent violent offenders from seeing their children. She argues for legal reforms to protect children from the effects of domestic violence. In a separate initiative, new Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil has announced that the timeframe for keeping tax receipts will be extended from eight to ten years as a part of efforts to tackle tax fraud, enabling longer investigations into financial misconduct.
Anyone who hits their partner must expect to no longer be allowed to see their child - or only in the presence of an accompanying person.
We must clearly stipulate in law that in cases of violence against the other parent, contact with the child can also be restricted or even excluded.
Anyone affected by domestic violence must be able to get out of a joint tenancy agreement as quickly as possible - even if their ex-partner is stubborn.
This will allow investigations to be conducted for longer.”
