The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it has captured extensive territory in the southern Gaza Strip, specifically around Rafah, creating a security corridor intended to isolate Hamas militants. Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized the urgency to dismantle Hamas and secure the release of hostages, indicating an escalation in IDF operations across Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu outlined plans for a strategic corridor, named the Morag Axis, to exert further pressure on Hamas, marking a significant shift in military strategy in the region.
"This is the last moment to remove Hamas, free all the hostages, and bring an end to the war," Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this month the IDF intended to establish a corridor between Rafah and Khan Younis, which he called the Morag Axis.
Katz said Saturday that the takeover of Morag had been completed, "turning the entire area between the Philadelphi corridor and Morag into part of Israel's security zone."
