Hikers shocked to discover gold coins - and they're worth a fortune: 'My jaw dropped'
Briefly

A pair of Czech hikers discovered a treasure trove of gold coins and jewelry valued over $300,000 in the Podkrkonoší Mountains. The find, thought to date back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, comprises 598 gold coins and several exquisite gold objects including snuff boxes and bracelets. Historians speculate it may have been hidden from the Nazis. Experts highlight the historical significance of this treasure, stating that its true value goes beyond mere monetary worth, representing a piece of lost history.
"When he [one of the hikers] opened it, my jaw dropped," said Miroslav Novak, head of archaeology at the Museum of East Bohemia, after the incredible find.
Coin expert Vojtěch Brádle noted that many of the money pieces were marked with dates ranging from 1808 to 1915, originating from the Austro-Hungarian Empire ruled by Franz Joseph I.
We will need to analyze the rest, but at the current price of precious metals, the value of the find can start at 7.5 million [Czech] Crowns ($340,000)," estimated Novak.
However, he declared that the "historical value of the treasure" is priceless.
