Germany news: Spy chiefs issue warnings over Russia, Hamas DW 10/13/2025
"Sinan Selen, the head of the BfV, the country's domestic spy agency, said that a recent peace deal for Gaza does not mean there is a "reason to sound the all-clear when it comes to Hamas and its activities in Europe and Germany." Selen warned that Hamas has "infrastructure" in Germany, and that his office estimates some 32,500 people living in the country can be classified as foreign extremists. This is an increase of 6% over the previous year."
"Martin Jager, chief of the foreign intelligence service, the BND, said that the 'icy peace' between Europe and Russia right now could at any moment become a 'hot confrontation.' To achieve its goal of broader political influence in Europe, 'Russia will not shy away from direct military confrontation with NATO if necessary,' Jager said, adding that sweeping propaganda efforts were already underway."
The domestic intelligence agency identifies Hamas infrastructure within Germany and estimates roughly 32,500 people as foreign extremists, a 6% increase from the previous year. The figure indicates rising concerns about extremist networks and activities linked to the Palestinian militant group across Europe and Germany. The foreign intelligence service assesses that the current icy peace between Europe and Russia could quickly deteriorate into a hot confrontation. Russia seeks broader political influence in Europe, may resort to direct military confrontation with NATO if necessary, and is conducting sweeping propaganda campaigns to advance its objectives.
