"We now need more funding, support, and research nationally and at the European level," Dobrindt said. German authorities have launched a search to identify the origin of the drones."

Germany is marking 35 years since the integration of former East and West with national celebrations centered in Saarbrücken, where French President Emmanuel Macron is the guest of honor. German Unity Day remains the country’s most important public holiday and commemorates reunification after the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989. Munich airport briefly closed because of drone sightings and has since resumed flights. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt called the Munich drone incidents a “wake-up call,” urged increased funding, support and research at national and European levels, and said authorities are searching for the drones’ origin.
