Airports in Paris and Amsterdam were the worst affected, with Dutch authorities saying more than 1,000 travellers were forced to spend the night at Schiphol. More than 700 flights were cancelled at Schiphol, over 100 at Paris Charles de Gaulle, 40 at Orly, and 40 at Brussels Airport. Six people died in weather-related accidents, five in France and one in Bosnia where heavy snow and rain sparked floods and power outages. Public bus services in Paris were suspended because of icy roads and almost half of mainland France was on alert for heavy snow and black ice. Hundreds of schools in Britain shut for a third day and some rural Scottish communities faced possible isolation. Eurostar services and several Nordic countries also experienced snow-related disruptions.
