In Stage 2 of the Vuelta a Burgos Féminas, SD Worx-Protime faced significant setbacks as world champion Lotte Kopecky was involved in a crash with 30km to go, hindering her chances in the general classification. Sports director Christian Kos expressed disappointment, noting that the team's efforts to catch up were undermined by the aggressive moves of other teams. Although Lorena Wiebes achieved a strong finish, the team’s overall prospects were dimmed. Despite these challenges, Kos remains optimistic about pursuing stage victories in the remaining stages of the race.
This was a bad day. Until the crash, there seemed to be no problem. Lotte narrowly avoided a crash herself, but she was held up.
We had hoped to take sporting revenge by winning the stage with Lorena Wiebes. She got over that tricky climb well but missed the extra punch.
This stage race is not over yet. We have to put this stage aside. It is what it is. We won't let our heads hang.
In the end, Lorena won the sprint of the remaining group quite easily, but that doesn't buy us anything.
