Xbox Exclusive RPG Avowed Is Coming To PS5 With New Features
"Avowed, Obsidian's 2025 RPG originally released on Xbox Series X/S and PC, is coming to PlayStation 5. The new version of Avowed, announced during the New Game+ Showcase, will be available on Sony's system on February 17, 2026--just a day short of the one-year anniversary of the game's original release. Microsoft remains the game's publisher, having purchased Obsidian in 2018."
"Alongside the PS5 version, Obsidian will also release an anniversary update for the game for all systems. This update will add a "New Game Plus" mode, which lets you carry over all of your equipable gear to a new character, reset to level 1, and fight modified enemies. It also adds a photo mode, three new playable races, the ability to change your appearance from the overworld, and a new weapon type."
"Avowed received a 6/10 in GameSpot's review. "On multiple fronts, Avowed holds so much promise that it struggles to follow through on," wrote Alesseandro Barbosa. "While its combat feels impactful and gives you options to experiment with, it's hamstrung by an overall reliance on gear upgrades and scarce resources that prevent you from fully enjoying the creative freedom it initially advertises.""
Avowed will launch on PlayStation 5 on February 17, 2026, following its 2025 release on Xbox Series X/S and PC. Microsoft remains the game's publisher after acquiring Obsidian in 2018. The first-person action RPG, set in the Pillars of Eternity world, tasks players with investigating a mysterious plague while using weapons and magic across a sprawling world. An anniversary update will add New Game Plus, photo mode, three new playable races, overworld appearance changes, and a new weapon type. The PS5 version includes all prior post-release content. Preorders cost $50; a $60 Premium Edition adds a digital artbook, soundtrack, extra armors, and companion skins. GameSpot scored the game 6/10, praising combat but criticizing reliance on gear and scarce resources.
