Death Stranding 2's PC Release Could Be Coming Soon

"It appears the PlayStation 5 game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach from Hideo Kojima could be released on PC, just like the first game. A rating for the game on PC has popped up on the ESRB's database. Games typically receive ratings from various groups before they are released, suggesting the as-yet unannounced PC version could release soon. The 2019 original Death Stranding released on PC in July 2020, which was about eight months after the game originally launched for PS4 in November 2019."

"Sony owns the publishing rights to Death Stranding and decides when it's released on other platforms, and increasingly, PC is becoming a bigger revenue source for the company. A recent report said Sony's various PC releases thus far have brought in more than $1 billion collectively. Unlike Microsoft, Sony does not release most of its games simultaneously across console and PC. PlayStation boss Hermen Hulst said this is done to protect the PlayStation console ecosystem. "Our single-player, narrative-driven titles that are the backbone of what PlayStation Studios has delivered in recent years and in our history--we take a more strategic approach," he said."

"Kojima has a number of upcoming projects in the works, including the espionage game Physint and the horror game OD. Sadly, OD actor Udo Kier recently passed away, and Kojima issued a heartfelt tribute to the German actor who also appeared in Call of Duty and Command & Conquer games. Beyond games, Kojima is involved with Death Stranding's transmedia efforts, including a live-action movie and a TV series for Disney+."

An ESRB rating entry indicates Death Stranding 2: On the Beach may be headed to PC. The original Death Stranding arrived on PC in July 2020, about eight months after its PS4 debut. Sony holds the publishing rights, controls timing for releases, and has generated more than $1 billion from PC releases collectively. Sony typically staggers PC and console releases to protect the PlayStation ecosystem; PlayStation boss Hermen Hulst called this a strategic approach for single-player narrative titles. The PC release date for Death Stranding 2 remains unknown. Hideo Kojima is developing additional projects including the espionage game Physint, the horror game OD, and transmedia adaptations such as a live-action movie and a Disney+ TV series.
