You may soon be able to change your Gmail address | TechCrunch
"Good news for anyone tired of or embarrassed by their current Gmail address: You may soon be able to change it without losing access to your old emails and files. As first spotted by the Google Pixel Hub group on Telegram and subsequently reported in 9to5Google, a Hindi version of the Gmail support website states that Google is "gradually rolling out to all users" the ability to change the email address tied to their Google account,"
"If you make the switch, your old Gmail account should still work as an alias, and you'll be able to sign into Google services with either your new or old address. However, you won't be able to create any additional Gmail addresses tied to your account for another 12 months. As of Sunday afternoon, the English-language version of the support site still states, "If your account's email address ends in @gmail.com, you usually can't change it""
A rollout is underway that will let users change the email address associated with their Google account, including switching from one @gmail.com address to another, without losing access to existing emails and files. After changing the address, the previous Gmail address will function as an alias and both the new and old addresses can be used to sign in to Google services. Users who change their account address will be prevented from creating additional Gmail addresses tied to the same account for 12 months. The English support page had not yet been updated to reflect the change.
