TOOOONY is a spherical in-car companion featuring a circular expressive display with customizable watch faces and animated eyes. Designers Junjia Yang, Yang Shen, Yanan Liu, and Ruilin Niu at ZIZ Intelligent Manufacturing focused on making the device feel like a companion rather than a dashboard gadget. TOOOONY supports anthropomorphic AI dialogue, voice and touch recognition, and tap-to-interact functionality for communicating with other TOOOONY users. The device uses LoRa near-field encrypted communication to enable cross-brand, non-contact, driver social interactions, sharing traffic information and acknowledgements securely and without switching apps or car brands.
