SwitchBot's new safety tracker can discreetly trigger a fake phone call
"SwitchBot is expanding its already diverse line of smart home offerings with a new tracking fob that doubles as both a personal safety device and a quick way to gain entry to your home. SwitchBot's Safety Alarm looks like a keychain flashlight and even has LEDs when you need some extra illumination and don't want to reach for your smartphone."
"In an emergency, however, you can also remove the Safety Alarm's short keychain with a yank, which triggers a few things. That LED becomes a flashing strobe light and is accompanied by a very loud 130dB audible alarm. When a connected phone is nearby, an alert is also automatically sent to up to five friends and family members that includes the last known location of the tracker when the alarm was activated, but not live-tracking."
The Safety Alarm serves as a tracking fob, NFC key for SwitchBot smart locks, and small flashlight with LEDs, available for $39.99 in three colors and a two-pack discount. It sends "home arrival" notifications when a paired phone enters Bluetooth range. In emergencies removing the short keychain triggers a flashing strobe and a 130dB audible alarm and can notify up to five contacts with the tracker’s last known location. A discreet double-press triggers a virtual phone call that rings even in silent mode. The device is louder but less trackable than some competitors, like Pebblebee's Clip.
