Samsung's Galaxy S26 series may support Google's Scam Detection
"Scam Detection powered by on-device Gemini Nano AI has so far been exclusive to the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 families, and it's only available in Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, the UK, and the US. There's another version, that doesn't use the Gemini model, but relies instead on on-device machine learning, and that one also works on the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8 series."
"The intriguing thing here is that Samsung phones don't use Google's Phone app, and while you can install it from the Play Store, it's unclear if it will gain the necessary permissions to use on-device AI for its purposes, seeing as how it's not a system app. Of course, there's another possibility - namely, that Samsung will switch to Google's Phone app with the One UI 8.5 release that will make its debut on the Galaxy S26 family. Only time will tell."
Code in the Phone by Google app references Galaxy S26 model numbers (SM-S942, SM-S947, SM-S948) and the Scam Detection codename "sharpie", implying integration plans. Scam Detection with on-device Gemini Nano AI has been limited to Pixel 9 and 10 families in select countries; an alternate non-Gemini, on-device ML version supports Pixel 6, 7, and 8 series. Samsung devices do not use Google's Phone app by default, and installing it from the Play Store may not grant system-level permissions required for on-device AI. Samsung could alternatively adopt Google's Phone app with One UI 8.5 on the Galaxy S26 family, but the outcome remains uncertain.
