Samsung unveils new 200MP ISOCELL HP5 sensor for phones
"Samsung has unveiled yet another 200MP smartphone image sensor called the ISOCELL HP5, which it claims is the world's first to feature 0.5µm-sized pixels. The HP5, despite having a small pixel size, is said to deliver bright images in low-light conditions and overall better image quality. The sensor itself measures 1/1.56-inch in size. Samsung notes that it used technologies like Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) and Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) to allow each pixel to capture more light and detail."
"The sensor is claimed to take advantage of improved DTI Center Cut (DCC) technology to produce brighter and clearer images, despite the small pixels. Samsung claims the sensor delivers a 150% boost in conversion gain and improves random noise (RN) reduction by 3 to 40%, depending on the shooting conditions. The ISOCELL HP5 offers 2x in-sensor zoom and up to 6x lossless zoom when used with a 3x telephoto lens."
The ISOCELL HP5 is a 200MP smartphone image sensor featuring 0.5µm pixels and a 1/1.56-inch optical format. Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI), Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG), and improved DTI Center Cut (DCC) technologies increase light capture and detail per pixel. The sensor achieves a claimed 150% boost in conversion gain and reduces random noise (RN) by 3–40% depending on conditions. Imaging features include 2x in-sensor zoom and up to 6x lossless zoom with a 3x telephoto lens, Smart ISO Pro, staggered HDR, 4K120/8K30/1080p240 video, and RAW output up to 14-bit. Mass production has begun and device adoption is expected.
