Nike's inflatable puffer jacket de-puffs to cool you down
"Leveraging the company's longtime use of air bladders to improve the cushioning in its shoes, the Nike Therma-FIT Air Milano jacket is made from a soft but durable two-layer composite laminate material that can be inflated or deflated in seconds. When filled with air the jacket is better at trapping body heat for more insulation, and when deflated it provides about as much warmth as a lightweight hoodie, according to Nike."
"Nike hasn't said if or when the jacket will be available to the public or how much it might cost, but it will make its first public appearance during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, where it will be worn by Team USA athletes as part of their medal ceremony outfits. But this isn't the first appearance of this unique technology. Nike released its first inflatable jacket, the ACG Airvantage that you could blow up like a balloon, back in 2008."
Project Amplify and new performance apparel with improved airflow accompany a temperature-regulating jacket called the Therma-FIT Air Milano. The jacket uses a soft, durable two-layer composite laminate with inflatable air bladders that can fill or vent in seconds to increase or reduce insulation. When inflated it traps more body heat; when deflated it provides warmth comparable to a lightweight hoodie. The design compresses more easily than down or engineered insulator puffers for easier packing. The jacket will appear on Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics; no public availability date or pricing has been announced. Nike previously experimented with inflatable jackets in 2008 and earlier this year.
