"In November 1997, a contest ... called 'Pokemon Card Game Illust Artist Contest,' challenged readers to draw their own Pokémon card and send it to the magazine. The following January issue of CoroCoro Comic announced the three winners, who each received 20 Pokemon cards featuring their own illustrations along with one copy of the Pikachu Illustrator card."
"In 1998, only 39 copies of this card--designed by Atsuko Nishida, the original creator of Pikachu--were awarded to winners of a Pokemon illustration contest. Twenty-four years later, I wore it out to my Wrestlemania debut after it set a Guinness World Record for the most expensive Pokemon card ever sold--the only perfect PSA 10 Pikachu Illustrator in the world. I'm selling it with the $75,000 custom Pokemon chain, and I'll hand-deliver it to the buyer."
Logan Paul is auctioning a perfect PSA 10 Pikachu Illustrator artist edition at Goldin Auctions, initially listing it for $1.3 million. The auction has reached $1.45 million with about 40 days remaining. The card originated from a 1997 CoroCoro Comic illustration contest that awarded 39 copies in 1998 to contest winners; the card was designed by Atsuko Nishida. The sale includes a custom Pokemon chain valued at $75,000 and Paul will personally hand-deliver the card to the buyer. The card set a Guinness World Record as the most expensive Pokemon card and is the only known perfect PSA 10 Pikachu Illustrator.
