"At DICE, Hideo Kojima revealed that he had many discussions with Vince Zampella about creating a first person Metal Gear Solid game together after the release of Metal Gear Solid 4. pic.twitter.com/hhjbCqG7T2 - Geoff Keighley (@geoffkeighley) February 11, 2026"
"Kojima did introduce a first-person mode in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, however players could only move around in a third-person view. The MGS franchise so heavily leans towards stealth that it might have been difficult to retain the game's signature touches in first-person."
"Kojima made these comments at DICE this week during a panel dedicated to honoring Zampella's life and career. Keighley, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, Bethesda boss Todd Howard, EA executive Laura Miele, and other luminaries spoke at the event, which was called "Vince Zampella: Remembering A Titan.""
Vince Zampella, a Call of Duty veteran and Battlefield boss, died in a car accident last December. Hideo Kojima engaged in multiple discussions with Zampella about creating a first-person Metal Gear Solid game after Metal Gear Solid 4, but the collaboration never moved forward. Metal Gear Solid 2 included a first-person mode but limited player movement to third-person, and the franchise's strong stealth focus could complicate a full first-person transition. A DICE panel honoring Zampella featured industry figures and was titled "Vince Zampella: Remembering A Titan." Konami reported the franchise surpassed 65.5 million sales, while skepticism remains about an MGS4 remake.
