"All of the processors have either eight or 16 cores composed of three types of core. Each processor has four P or performance cores, which offer the highest clocks and use the most juice. Then there are LP E cores, which use the least amount of power and are the slowest. Then 16-core chips also have eight E cores which are somewhere in the middle."

Laptops with the new chips begin shipping January 27 and have secured more than 200 design wins, including Dell XPS 14 and 16, with strong battery-life claims exceeding 40 hours of 1080p streaming. Fourteen SKUs span from a 16-core Core Ultra X9 388H to an 8-core Core Ultra 5 322. Processors combine P, E, and LP E cores to shift tasks for power savings. Architectural changes include a die shrink to 2 nm, denser RibbonFET transistors, and rear power delivery, and certifications target embedded and industrial edge applications such as robotics and healthcare.
