I Was Scared to Wash an Electric Blanket Until a Cleaning Pro Taught Me How to Do It
"Before you put an electric blanket anywhere near liquid detergent or water, you have to unplug it. Remember, water and electricity do not mix. Disconnect all the controls and cords, and then check the blanket for damage, like tears in the fabric or fraying wires. If the blanket needs to be repaired, do that before attempting to clean it. Then, follow these steps."
"Put the blanket in the washing machine and use mild detergent, a gentle or delicate cycle, and cold water only. If possible, skip the spin cycle. Move the blanket to the dryer and dry it on low heat to just damp. It should take 15 minutes. Towel dry the blanket by laying it flat and and press down with a towel to soak up water. Then let it dry on a towel rack or drying rack. Reconnect the blanket once it is completely dry."
Electric blankets must be unplugged and disconnected from controls before any cleaning. Inspect the blanket for tears, frayed wires, or other damage and repair before washing. Use mild liquid detergent without bleach or fabric softener and a washing machine without an agitator on a gentle or delicate cold-water cycle; skip the spin cycle if possible. Transfer the blanket to the dryer on low heat for about 15 minutes until just damp. Lay the blanket flat, press moisture with a towel if needed, and finish drying on a towel rack or drying rack. Reconnect only after the blanket is completely dry.
