I tried T-Mobile's satellite phone service on an off-grid adventure - here's what surprised me most
"One of my favorite corners of the world is my friend's secluded family cabin in Upstate New York -- so remote that it is impossible to get any signal there. That's why, when I got a chance to test out T-Mobile's T-Satellite, which is designed to provide connectivity even where cell towers can't reach, I knew just where to take it."
"T-Satellite is automatically included at no additional charge for T-Mobile's top plans, including Experience Beyond and Go5G Next, on eligible devices. These devices include most of the latest phones, such as the iPhone 13 and later, the Samsung Galaxy S21 and later, and the Google Pixel 9 and later. For this trip, I used an iPhone 17 with the Experience Beyond plan."
T-Mobile launched T-Satellite in partnership with Starlink to extend connectivity where 4G/5G towers cannot reach. Phones automatically switch to one of 650+ Starlink satellites to access text messaging, navigation, music, weather, and video calling. The service is included at no extra charge on top T-Mobile plans (Experience Beyond and Go5G Next) for eligible devices such as iPhone 13+, Samsung Galaxy S21+, and Google Pixel 9+. Other T-Mobile plan holders and non-T-Mobile customers can add the feature for $10 per month. The satellites move, so phones may switch between satellite and terrestrial networks during use. Testing in a remote Upstate New York cabin produced positive results.
