How Stoneridge's MirrorEye boosts bus driver awareness and prevents accidents - Sustainable Bus
"Across Europe, road safety remains a top priority. According to the European Commission, buses are involved in thousands of accidents each year, resulting in hundreds of fatalities - many caused by blind spot collisions with vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians. To help prevent these tragedies, Stoneridge developed MirrorEye, a state-of-the-art Camera Monitor System that replaces traditional mirrors with high-resolution cameras and in-cabin displays. MirrorEye provides drivers with a clearer, wider view of their surroundings, significantly reducing blind spots."
"This regulation is a cornerstone of the EU's 'Vision Zero' initiative, which aims for zero fatalities on European roads by 2050. Under the GSR2, buses are required to be equipped with advanced safety systems, including the Blind Spot Information System (BSIS), which warns drivers of cyclists and pedestrians alongside the vehicle, and the Moving Off Information System (MOIS), which alerts drivers to vulnerable road users in front of the vehicle when moving off."
Stoneridge offers MirrorEye, a Camera Monitor System that replaces conventional mirrors with high-resolution cameras and in-cabin displays to widen driver visibility and reduce blind spots. MirrorEye integrates Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) and Moving Off Information System (MOIS) warnings directly into driver displays, delivering immediate, intuitive alerts of cyclists and pedestrians alongside or in front of the vehicle. All EU vehicle registrations from July 2024 must comply with the General Safety Regulation (GSR), which mandates systems such as BSIS and MOIS under the Vision Zero initiative. Stoneridge will exhibit at Busworld Europe 2025, Hall 6 Stand 644; more at www.stoneridge.com.
