Here's why the Olympics drones fly so fast
"This is the closest you can get to feeling a jump,"
"It's about capturing the motion of the athlete-not just the result, but the sensation of speed, the tactics, the technique, and the environment in which they compete,"
Drones provide first-person, athlete-perspective aerial footage across Olympic venues, offering immersive viewing that captures movement, speed, tactics, technique, and environment. Broadcasters deploy a fleet of 25 drones including custom agile models and standard scenic units. Custom drones feature inverted blades and bottom-mounted propellers for smoother flight curves and tighter turns, enabling closer, athlete-like shots. The drones are small, audible, and designed for agility and speed rather than endurance; batteries typically last only two athlete runs before replacement. Operators pilot drones down slopes and around tracks to deliver dynamic, motion-focused angles beyond fixed cameras and cable rigs.
