"In the meantime, plenty of other Android device makers have issued updates to Android 16 for their products, and so you may be wondering how many devices are running the latest version of the OS. Thankfully, Google has once again updated its Android version distribution chart. Although the update was made now, the data is from December 1, 2025. So keep in mind that the percentage of devices running Android 16 today is definitely at least somewhat higher."
"As you can see, of all the active Android devices out there, 7.5% run Android 16. As usual, this is pitiful compared to Apple's adoption rates for new iOS versions, but context is important - Android is a much more open ecosystem, with dozens of companies producing hundreds, if not thousands of devices. Thus, issuing Android updates is a much more complicated affair, and it's always been like that."
Google released Android 16 in June 2025 for the Pixel lineup, and many other manufacturers have issued updates since. Data from December 1, 2025 shows 7.5% of all active Android devices run Android 16. Android 15 leads adoption at 19.3%, followed by Android 14 at 17.2% and Android 13 at 13.9%. Android 16 ranks seventh, trailing Android 11, 12, and 10. The open, diverse Android ecosystem with dozens of companies and hundreds of device models complicates and slows update rollout compared with iOS. Android 16 adoption is expected to increase in coming months.
