Google is adding Gemini AI to Maps in India, providing hands-free assistance, contextual navigation suggestions, and richer place information. Gemini will roll out to all Android and iOS users in India in the coming weeks and will support nine Indian languages. Localization covers language, colloquialisms, place identification, street names, and geopolitical naming to match Indian usage. India-specific navigation updates include visual and audio alerts for accident-prone stretches in Gurugram, Cyberabad region of Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Faridabad. Google partnered with the National Highways Authority of India to receive near real-time road closure data. Users are encouraged to keep their eyes on the road due to dynamic real-world conditions.
