"A tribute to the iconic Weighted Companion Cube from Valve's beloved Portal series, it's such a fitting design that I sort of wonder if the company is kicking itself for not making something similar for its cube-shaped compact PC. Of course, putting your Steam Machine inside this will ensure it stands out from the other consoles occupying your TV unit,"
"In case you missed yesterday's announcement, the Steam Machine is a Linux-based mini PC that runs SteamOS and is designed to be plugged into your TV, like a console. Valve says it's roughly six times more powerful than a Steam Deck and is capable of supporting 4K/60fps gaming with FSR. You can also use it to stream VR games to the new Stream Frame headset, while the Steam Controller, with its distinctive trackpads, allows you to play your Steam games wirelessly."
Dbrand is creating a Weighted Companion Cube skin for Valve's Steam Machine to make the cube-shaped mini PC distinctive in living-room setups. The skin pays tribute to Portal's Companion Cube and contrasts with the Steam Machine's default all-black colorway and customizable front plate with LED strip. The Steam Machine runs SteamOS, is Linux-based, and targets TV gaming with roughly six times the power of a Steam Deck and 4K/60fps support with FSR. The system can stream VR to the Stream Frame headset and uses the Steam Controller for wireless play. No price or precise release date has been announced beyond 2026.
