"@chinafocus_official A tech blogger in Chengdu just controlled 10+ flying swords with hand gestures. Since Nov 2024, he's been developing the first motion-sensing flying sword. His next dream? "It took the influencer and his four-man team nearly two months to build, and was inspired by his love for Chinese martial arts. "Initially, we used 20 ducted fans, but the thrust wasn't enough. We added four more, which gave us the power we needed, and that's how the 'flying sword' you see in the video became a reality," Fan told the publication."
Fan Shisan, a Sichuan-based influencer, showcases handcrafted flying sword drones in short-form videos. A recent clip shows a swarm of sword-shaped drones lifted by ducted fans at the tip, pommel and cross-guard, responding to his hand motions to change direction mid-flight. The visual effect evokes the flying blade trope from Chinese fantasy. Earlier Fan and a four-man team built a hoverable "flying sword" large enough to ride; the build took nearly two months and required adding four ducted fans after 20 proved insufficient. Fan also holds two Guinness World Records.
