2025 Winners and losers: Motorola
"Motorola had a strong year thanks to its Razr foldables, however, the direction of the Edge series left something to be desired. The brand is one of the few available in the US outside of the Apple-Google-Samsung trinity and shouldn't be overlooked, even when it doesn't get things 100% right. Motorola's mostly clean Android implementation and the advanced connectivity features (even on some lower-end models) add to what are already some of the better value-for-money phones on the market."
"The Razr 60 series - or as it is known in the US, the Razr 2025 series - has been a smash hit for Motorola. Just look at these results for the global foldable market in Q2, which were shared by analyst firm Counterpoint Research: Motorola's share doubled compared to last year and analysts highlighted the success of the Razr 60 / Razr 2025. It was the first flip foldable to hit the $700 mark in the US market. Admittedly, Q2 was just before the arrival of the Z Flip7, the Z Flip7 FE and the Z Fold7, but this is still an impressive success."
"The Motorola Razr 60 Ultra / Razr Ultra 2025 also deserves praise - it upgraded to a flagship chipset (Snapdragon 8 Elite) and a large (for the class) 4,700mAh battery with fast charging. It also features better display panels and a better main camera compared to its predecessor. The Motorola Razr+ 2025 is a bit of an odd duck. It doesn't help that it is only available in the US. It is a re-release of the Razr Ultra 2024 with one key upgrade - Motorola caught up to Samsung's IP48 rating for foldables."
Motorola achieved notable success driven by the Razr foldable lineup while the Edge series showed uncertain direction. The Razr 60/2025 family significantly increased Motorola's global foldable market share, becoming the first flip foldable to reach a $700 price point in the US. The Razr 60 Ultra upgraded to a flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 4,700mAh battery with fast charging, improved displays, and a better main camera. The Razr+ 2025 is a US-only re-release with IP48 foldable protection. The Edge 70's ultra-thin design raises questions about value due to pricing despite decent battery performance.
