'We felt helpless watching the situation in Gaza' - Community in Dublin comes together for Gaza solidarity run
"What happened yesterday was extraordinary - people of all ages and backgrounds came together to walk, run, cheer, donate and volunteer. It was beyond anything we could have imagined. It shows that even when the situation feels overwhelming, hope can grow when a community comes together and that each of us has the power to step forward and make a meaningful difference."
"We started as a small group of friends who felt utterly helpless watching the situation in Gaza."
"It was a day of connection and kindness, proving that no matter how far away Gaza may feel, we can stand in solidarity and make a real difference,"
"Every step was a message to families in Gaza that they're not alone and not forgotten,"
A 60km route along the Dublin coastline from Blackrock to Raheny DART stations symbolised the 60km boundary line dividing Gaza and Israel. Participants could walk or run the distance and join at different points; the route was divided into four 15km sections with staggered start times. The event supported Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) and raised over €18,000, surpassing a €6,000 target. Actress and comedian Norma Sheahan supported participants and ran from Raheny to Blackrock. Funds will go directly to MAP to deliver urgent medical care, food, shelter and lifesaving equipment for families in Gaza. Organiser Aibhín Bray framed the event as an extraordinary community response that turned helplessness into meaningful action.
