UCLA Health Receives $100M for Mental Health Treatment
"Los Angeles is our home, and too many in our city are hurting. Mental health challenges find their way into almost every family. The UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital has been a haven of hope and healing for ours and for so many others. We are deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses, researchers, and caregivers who stand beside people in their most vulnerable moments."
"This extraordinary investment transforms our ability to serve the Los Angeles-area community. By expanding inpatient services and integrating outpatient and community-based programs, we will be able to serve more people in need. The impact of this campus will be felt across our region for generations."
The Resnick Foundation has given UCLA Health $100 million, the largest single gift in the institution's history dedicated to mental health care. The funding supports expansion and relocation of the existing neuropsychiatric hospital, increasing bed capacity from 74 to 119 beds and establishing a dedicated 20-bed acute mental health crisis unit. The new hospital is expected to open in fall, with the crisis unit following in the next year. This gift brings the Resnicks' total contributions to UCLA to nearly $200 million. The expansion will enhance UCLA Health's ability to serve the Los Angeles-area community through increased inpatient services and integrated outpatient and community-based programs.
