Sept. 14 fundraiser set to support programs for disabled adults
"This fundraiser is so important to our organization because we do not have a steady stream of state or federal funding, aside from a small reimbursement from our regional center partners,"
"We rely heavily on our donors to help keep our programs running so that we can continue to offer equitable lifelong education for adults with IDD."
"The workforce development program has showed me a lot of opportunities and opened new doors for me,"
Enrollment at the College of Adaptive Arts (CAA) has doubled over five years while no reliable state or federal funding stream exists, leaving only small regional center reimbursements. A gala fundraiser on Sept. 14 at Mission College in Santa Clara will raise unrestricted support through an auction and raffle. The event includes a keynote by Congressman Sam Liccardo and student speakers who will describe program impacts. The college operates workforce development and apprenticeship programs that combine classroom instruction with on-the-job training to expand career pathways for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Funds will expand workforce and apprenticeship programs and provide financial aid.
