Balto Kayak Club members gathered at a community park for the fifth annual Ed Fest on the River Slaney. The event honored late former club member Edward O'Brien, who died in 2021, celebrating his spirit, sportsmanship, and kindness. Seventy-five people enjoyed water activities, games, challenges, treats, and refreshments, with friends and family attending alongside Edward’s wife Mandy and their children Jack, Ruby, and Lexie. The Ed Fest memorial trophy is awarded each year to a member who exemplifies Edward’s qualities. This year, Cormac Donovan received the trophy for his relaxed encouragement, dedication to helping others, and many hours assisting during winter pool sessions.
"Held in memory of late former club member Edward O'Brien, who passed away in 2021, and to celebrate his spirit, sportsmanship and kindness, the joyous event saw 75 people enjoy a range of water activities, games, challenges, treats and refreshments."

""It was another year with an amazing bunch of people, making Ed Fest the special day that it's always been. Thank you to everyone who baked, bought treats, humped gear around, drove vans full of kit, marshalled, instructed and had fun."
""A massive well done to Cormac, who deserved the Ed memorial trophy for his dedication towards helping others. He has given many hours over the winter months during our pool sessions, helping many with their rolling and quietly celebrates the success of others with a huge smile.""
