Organizers worry about future of Tamil Community Centre without more donations | CBC News
Briefly

Members of the Tamil community in Toronto seek to raise funds for the Tamil Community Centre (TCC) in Scarborough. The TCC will feature a library, museum, auditorium, and spaces for community programming. The project requires about $40 million, with the community tasked to raise $15 million by September 27. A campaign, Founding Families Campaign, aims to recruit 2,500 families to donate $5,000 over two years. Failure to meet fundraising goals could delay or cancel the centre's construction.
"There is an urgency," said Navaratnam. "The federal funding, provincial funding and even the city land is conditional on the fact that the community is going to come together and help build this public facility for us."
The non-profit TCC has launched an online campaign to raise $15 million by Sept. 27, which is the date of its annual general meeting, to keep the project on track.
