Meet the Kerry trio planning an epic and gruelling fundraiser for Kerry Hospice Foundation
Marek Skibinski, Adam Whyte, and James Daley will undertake a three-day fundraiser called “Where Pain Meets Purpose” from September 25 to 27. They will complete a 175km cycle around the Ring of Kerry, then immediately run the same 175km route. The challenge is expected to bring extreme physical and mental strain, including moments when legs fail and exhaustion sets in. The goal is to raise at least €25k for the Kerry Hospice Foundation. The idea began when Marek proposed cycling and then running the route for charity, and James agreed to join. Training focuses on building mileage, including participation in the Tralee 40-mile Ultra and a planned 100km run in June.
"Marek Skibinski, Adam Whyte and James Daley - all of whom are seasoned runners - will, this coming September 25 to 27, take on the challenge of a 175km cycle around the Ring of Kerry, followed immediately by a 175km run of the same route."
"The fundraiser, titled 'Where Pain Meets Purpose', means that, of course, the challenge will have moments over the course of the three days where their bodies will want to stop, moments where the legs will be gone and when the mind will be exhausted. But. the trio said, the pain will mean nothing when compared to what so many families go through every single day."
""Marek and I were out for a run one day and we're both as mad as each other. He just said that he'd come up with the idea of cycling the Ring of Kerry and then running it afterwards for charity and he just asked me what I thought and I said, yeah sure, sign me up!" he laughed."
""We're literally just putting miles into the legs at the moment. We're doing the 100k run in Tralee in June and so both of them will give us good mileage in the legs," he said, joking that they'll need every single one with sleep set to be almost non-existent in the challenge."
