How 8,000 from Horeswood Musical Society will help families in South West Wexford
Horeswood Musical Society presented an €8,000 donation to the South West Wexford Family Resource Centre following its production of The Addams Family. The show involved more than 90 young performers from Horeswood and surrounding parishes. The production was led by Catherine Power, Julie Ronan, Aisling Doyle, and Philip Erskine, with costumes by Margaret Bowe and set work by Joey Foran. Catherine Power said the society was proud of the work done by the young cast and that the donation helps young people build confidence while giving back to the community. Jane McWilliams, CE Co-ordinator at SWWFRC, said the centre is deeply grateful and explained that donations can be used more flexibly than grants. She described support needs such as baby food and taxi costs after domestic violence incidents, and noted the donation will support the new Social Supermarket initiative for families facing financial hardship.
"“We had more than 90 kids involved in this year's show, and we're so proud of the work they've put in.” “It's an honour to be able to present such a huge amount to such a great local cause. We're incredibly grateful to our audiences and sponsors for their support,” she continued. “Everything we do is about helping young people grow in confidence, and being able to give back to the community is an extra bonus,” Ms Power concluded."
"“deeply grateful for this incredibly generous donation” Ms McWilliams explained to those present that funding they recieve by way of grants at the SWWFRC differs greatly to how the likes of funding from donations can be spent, with grants having to be spent very specifically. She outlined how the donation gives the SWWFRC the ability to use this money for other reasons the staff feel necessary, such as if a parent can't afford baby food, or if they need to pay for a taxi service to have a woman brought to saftey from a domestic violence incident."
"“This support will also play an important role in the development of our new Social Supermarket initiative, which aims to provide practical assistance to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship across the local community,” she continued."
