As the holiday season approaches, French unions for taxi drivers and rail workers are ramping up strikes in response to dissatisfaction with government actions regarding transport fares. Taxi federations have announced a renewed wave of protests starting June 9, including potential blockades, after unsuccessful negotiations with the Ministry of Health. Meanwhile, the CGT union within the rail sector is calling for walkouts, even though these strikes have thus far caused only minor disruptions. There are growing tensions as both sectors mobilize against perceived injustices.
We're being taken for fools by the government advisers. They have no intention of changing their methods or the rates they impose on us, said Bernard Crébassa, the head of the National Federation of taxi drivers.
The union CGT has called on ticket inspectors to walk out on Wednesday, June 11th, but so far no other French rail unions have joined in calls for strike action on this day.
