Hundreds of thousands rally across France on May Day
Briefly

International Workers' Day rallies in France on May 1st attracted over 300,000 participants, predominantly organized by trade unions. Despite overall peaceful marches, violent incidents occurred in Paris involving radical protesters targeting Socialist lawmakers. This led to numerous arrests and injuries. The CGT trade union acknowledged the success of the demonstrations while condemning the violence. The hard-left La France Insoumise party distanced itself from the violence, arguing that political disagreements should not result in assaults and condemning the narrative that linked their party to these actions.
While the march in the capital largely passed off without incident, Socialist lawmakers complained of being assaulted with punches and flares by all-black-clad protesters, leading to dozens of arrests in the afternoon.
The police said officers had detained 72 people, including 52 in Paris, and had placed 28 people in provisional custody, of whom 19 were held in the capital.
These are acts of violence which are not welcome in our processions. But nonetheless this day of demonstrations was a great success, we've recorded 270 marches in all of France.
We do not agree that political disagreements should be resolved like that. Please stop imputing actions to the party.
