Pierre-Edouard Sterin, a French billionaire, failed to appear at a parliamentary enquiry regarding his Pericles project, which promotes conservative values. His absence, attributed to safety concerns, was criticized by Thomas Cazenave, head of the inquiry, who called it a stalling tactic. The project has funded various far-right initiatives. While Sterin neglected to attend, his project’s director indicated their limited financial reach and their significant focus on right-wing political agendas, thereby adding to the scrutiny surrounding the financial backing of political movements in France.
"I replied that we had taken appropriate measures to protect him, just like for lawmakers who regularly receive threats," Cazenave stressed, adding that he deplored Sterin's 'stalling technique.'
"We're an incubator on the right of the political spectrum for meta-political projects. So far, we have financed less than 15% of the 600 applications we received," he told the committee.
