France's women’s national football team has left out captain Wendie Renard and record scorer Eugenie Le Sommer from their Euro 2025 squad. This decision comes as the team prepares for their first tournament under new coach Laurent Bonadei, who took over from Herve Renard. They will compete in the Group D matches beginning against England on July 5. Griedge Mbock Bathy, a PSG defender, steps up as captain while three vice-captains have also been appointed to support her in leading the team.
"She is a magnificent person, she brings people together, she is unanimous," Bonadei said of Mbock Bathy's appointment as skipper.
"All the players are behind her. She is also assisted by three vice-captains: [Sakina] Karchaoui, [Sandie] Toletti and [Grace] Geyoro. The choice was made naturally."
