This marks a significant development, being the first investigation of its kind since the office's establishment in 2019. Concerns over the rising violence linked to far-right ideologies are highlighted, with a growing number of extremist groups being banned. The case illustrates a broader trend of increasing radicalization on the far-right in France, prompting the need for dedicated investigative resources.
"It means that investigative resources will be devoted to analysing the political motives behind this act and how this person became radicalised," said Zelie Heran.
In recent years an increasing number of groups linked to violence extreme right or neo-Nazi ideologies have been banned in France.
