Why you have to go to the French Riviera's famous Lemon Festival
"The Fête du Citron in Menton, on the French Riviera is set to attract 200,000 visitors to the sun-soaked town and you should be among them. Menton's Lemon Festival is an amazing spectacle. From February 14th to March 1st some 120 tonnes of citrus fruits and a million elastic bands will be used to decorate the town, the floats and the massive statues on display."
"The biggest draw are the 'consos' (Carnival parades). The 'Consos des Fruits d'Or' on Sunday 15th, 22nd and 1st March start at 2.30pm and the 'Consos Nocturnes' are on Thursday 19th and 26th February at 9pm. They are spectacular. Each float is decorated with massive scenes, characters and fantasies decorated with thousands of citrus fruits, all illustrating the theme, which this year is 'Les Merveilles du Vivant' (The Marvels of Life). Each float also has music and dancers and lights."
"Another major attraction during the fête is the 'Salon des Orchidées et du Jardin d'Hiver' at the Palais d'Europe. Entrance is only 2 euros for adults and the glorious displays of orchids are really worth seeing. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays (except 14th February) the ticket price also includes workshops and talks for orchid fanciers."
