Velvet, France's first independent TGV operator, will begin operations in 2028, serving Bordeaux, Rennes, Angers, and Nantes from Paris. The company aims to meet the growing demand for travel on the Atlantic coast, providing 10 million additional seats. Current capacity issues leave nearly 15% of passengers without seats, a figure projected to rise to 25% by 2030. Velvet's trains, part of an €850 million contract, will be priced higher than SNCF's budget service, Ouigo, as they undergo testing before launch.
