Third British skier dies in another French Alps avalanche
"Local media reports that the man was skiing in a group near the town of La Grave on Tuesday when the avalanche hit. Mountain rescue services responded to the incident but the Briton, along with a Polish national, was pronounced dead, the BBC reported. This comes after two Britons died at the Val d'Isère ski resort on February 13th. An avalanche warning was recently issued for the northern Alps and the Hautes-Alpes, which includes La Grave, by Meteo-France, the country's national weather service."
"The avalanche risk in the area had been rated 4/5. There have now been at least 25 avalanche deaths in France this winter season, with the majority occurring since January. Four skiers were killed in the French Alps in separate incidents early in the month, while six skiers died in separate incidents in January after avalanches hit French resorts including Courchevel and La Plagne. All of those killed had been skiing off piste, leading authorities to issue extra warnings about the risk of off-piste skiing."
